Dafa Puppet Theatre (Jordania, the Czech Republic)
Location: National Liberation Museum Maribor
City: Maribor
Duration: 60 min

Date: 17. 5. 2019
Time: 15.00 & 18.00

A documentary, a personal account, a solo puppet performance for eight viewers is also a culinary experience. It connects the life stories and family incidents of a Palestinian, born and raised in the largest refugee camp in Jordan. By setting an intimate atmosphere, the performance invites the viewers into the story of a family, their interpersonal ties and hope. Very subtly and with great precision, the performance joins art and life, creation and reality, the intimate and the public.

Husam Abed is a Palestinian puppeteer, musician and social worker living between Amman and Prague. He earned his Master of Directing from the Department for Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Prague DAMU Academy. He is the founder of the Dafa Puppet Theatre as well as other festivals and associations. He performs and leads puppetry and storytelling workshops for children and youth in numerous countries, and does most of his work in refugee camps and the deprived areas across Jordan. He directs puppet performances and collaborates with artists of different nations.
